The Barbershop Lounge
The Barbershop Lounge
Every man needs an oasis. Someplace we can duck into and get away – even if it’s only for 30 minutes. Yes there are bars and gyms on every corner in this town but sometimes it’s not a good look to show up with the whiff of alcohol or getting a good sweat in just isn’t an option. For those times, I highly recommend visiting the Barbershop Lounge.
Located below ground level at 245 Newbury street BL is definitely an urban oasis with just about everything you need to hit the reset button. Non-alcoholic beverages are complimentary and flat screens on all the walls will let your mind find it’s happy place. The space is relaxed, dark and beautifully decorated. The staff is super friendly and you won’t have to fight through crowds or wait in line as they don’t over book.
They have master barbers and highly trained stylists so you can take your pick. On my first visit I sat down with Nate for a cut and to clean up my beard. As someone who frequents SuperCuts this was quite an eye opening experience. The cut was without question one of the best I’ve ever had and the knowledge he passed along regarding the best way to style my hair and care for it is something I use everyday now. This was definitely a level of grooming I could get used to.
Feeling refresh, I sat down with Dan Dumenigo, Manager at Barbershop Lounge, to learn a little more and to pick up some need-to-knows for WDB.
How long has Barbershop Lounge been here?
We’ve been here for 7 years. The owner of the building created this business and built the space from scratch. The entire staff has been here since the beginning except for myself and our two barbers. The biggest thing for us is to make our customers feel relaxed, we don’t do a 100 haircuts a day. We like people to be able to meet their stylist and enjoy the experience. Our customers come from all of the city, usually on their lunch breaks or after work.
What’s the best way to book an appointment?
It’s best to call us, we will have online booking soon but we think it’s nice to talk to a human being. We are pretty accommodating but our Barbers and Stylist will book up on Thursdays and Fridays so it’s could to call at the beginning of the week.
Do you have a loyalty program?
We have a membership for people who like to get a cut once a month. You pay $595 and you get a $750 store credit which basically pays for a cut each month and a maintenance visit every two weeks.
Do you have events here?
Yes, you can rent out the space. We do corporate parties, bachelor parties or just private get togethers. We recently did a Kettle One event for their sales team. They invited a bunch of vendors, partners and friends. People hung out got shaves and haircuts and played pool. We rent the space by the hour and rate depends on time of day and whether the shop is open during the event. We can also offer alcoholic beverages for private events.
Thanks Dan. We’ll be back soon!
